PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and be should be able to –

1. Classification of animals based on where they live.

2. Classification of animals based on uses.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of Posters; Charts and pictures of different farm animals showing where they live and uses.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Animals can be further classified based on where they live and their uses.

 

CLASSIFICATION BASED ON WHERE THEY LIVE

Terrestrial (land) 

Terrestrial mean land. Most farm animals live on land. They feed and breed there. For examples – cow, pig, poultry and cattle.

 

Aquatic (water)

Aquatic mean water. Aquatic animals are animals that live in water.  For examples – fish, crap, crayfish, etc.

 

CLASSIFICATION BASED ON USES

Farm animals are useful to man in different ways –

1. Milk (dairy) producers – cow, buffalo, goat, camel, horse, etc.

2. Meat producers – cow, buffalo, chicken, etc.

3. Egg producers – poultry, fish, etc.

4. Work (beast of burden) with examples – horse, donkey, mule, etc.

5. Sports and guard – chicken, dog, etc.

6. Source of hides or skin – hide or skin is an animal skin treated for human use e.g. cattle, etc.

7. Source of manure – animal dung used for fertilizing land.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides the pupils to identify animals that live in water and on land.

Pupil’s Activities – State animals that live in water and on land.

3. Discusses with the pupils, animals based on uses.

Pupil’s Activities – State different uses of animals.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
