The children can identify and describe a social institutions like their family, church/mosque, schools, markets, etc.

MEANING AND EXAMPLES OF SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS
WHAT IS SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS?
Social institution is a place where people live and learn together. For examples, family, schools, churches/mosques, hospitals and banks.
WHAT ARE THE EXAMPLES OF SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS?
1. Family is the first social institutions where we were born, live and grow with our father, mother, brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts, grandpa and grandma.
As we grow up, we learn to respect and love one another. Our parents and other family members provide and take care of us by providing food we eat, clothes we wear and house to live.

2. The school is a social institutions where we get to learn from our teacher and play with our friends.

3. The church/mosque is an important social institutions where we learn and worship God with other people.
In the church/mosque, there are pastors and alfa who preach and pray for us.

4. The hospital is also an important social institution where we get treated when we are sick or not feeling well.
In the hospital, the doctor and nurse take care of us, give us injections and drugs to make us well.

5. The banks are social institutions where we save our money and take it back anytime we need them.
L ESSON PRESENTATION
To deliver this lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson based on what he/she taught or what the children have learned.
2. Teacher displays chart showing some of the social institutions including some of the people. For examples – family (father, mother and their children), school (teachers and children), hospital (doctors and nurses), etc.
3. Teacher lets the children to examine, identify and describe the activities on the chart.
Children’s Activities – The children identify, understand and describe the pictures.
4. Teacher uses the chart and the children relevant responses to introduce the lesson, explain the meaning of social institutions using appropriate examples in the school.
Children’s Activities – The children pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the meaning and examples of social institutions.
5. Teacher summarizes the lesson in a very simple sentence, asks the children questions based on the lesson taught and gives the children work to do at home.
Children’s Activities – The children participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding to the questions and do their homework at home.
