LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain the meaning of digital literacy.

2. mention the importance of digital literacy.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can explain the meaning of computer.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of functional computers, online materials, websites, mobile applications and textbooks.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Digital literacy is the ability to be able to understand and use technology appropriately.

It is also the ability to understand the importance of using technology as well as the dangers and how to prevent them.

 

BASIC DIGITAL LITERACY SKILLS FOR KIDS

Some of the skills kids can learn are as follows:

1. Basic ICT Training for kids

2. Introduction to computer based programming and Coding.

3. Website Design and Coding.

4. Game Development coding

5. Robotics for kids Training

6. Graphic Design for Kids Training

7. Video Editing for Kids.

 

 

LESSON 2 – IMPORTANCE OF DIGITAL LITERACY 

IMPORTANCE OF DIGITAL LITERACY 

1. It equips you with problem solving skills.

2. It prepares you for the future.

3. It sharpens the mind and knowledge.

4. It makes you focus to push whatever and whenever.

5. It makes you to take reasonable response.

6. Technology has come to stay.

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT, As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups or pair depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher gets at least smartphone with Internet connectivity for each of the group or pair if functional computers are not available.

4. Teacher guides the groups or pairs to use the smartphone to the solve problems,

  • What is computer?
  • Find the meaning of search engine.
  • State 5 types of search engines.
  • Mention 5 uses of search engines.

Pupil’s Activities – Use the smartphone to provide solutions to the the stated problems.

5. Teacher asks each group or pair to compare results with one another.

Pupil’s Activities – Compare the results of from the search engines.

6. Teacher uses the simple tasks and pupil’s responses to introduce the lesson – digital literacy and tell them, technology has come to stay, there is need for digital literacy because it is the use of technology.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of the lesson.

7. Teacher explains the meaning of digital literacy and basic skills required for kids.

8. Teacher uses the definition of digital literacy to introduce and discuss the components and importance of digital literacy.

Pupil’s Activities – Explain the meaning and components of digital literacy.

9. Teacher explains the meaning of copyright and plagiarism.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the explanation to understand the different copyright and plagiarism.

13. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board with appropriate evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
