PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. state the meaning of balanced diet.

2. name the ingredients in a balanced diet.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOURS 

The pupils can identify carbohydrate foods, protein foods, etc.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of charts of components of a balanced diet.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – List the different food eaten by each pupils in a day and guide the pupils to classifies the food into food types.

Pupil’s Activities – Carbohydrates (bread, rice and yam), proteins (milk, eggs and meat), etc.

Teacher’s Activities – When two (2) or more food types are combined as meal, the meal becomes balanced diet. Give a great cheer for active participation. Note the food types on the board and discuss the meaning of balanced diet.

MEANING OF BALANCED DIET 

 

 

Balanced diets are the different types of food that provide adequate amounts of the nutrients necessary for good health.

 

COMPOSITION OF BALANCED DIET 

Balanced diet contained the following –

1. Carbohydrates – rice, yam, maize, bread, etc.

2. Proteins – eggs, meat, fish, plantain, etc.

3. Fats and oils – groundnut, groundnut oil, palm oil, butter, etc.

4. Minerals – fruits and vegetables

5. Vitamins – fruits and vegetables

6. Water

 

LESSON 2 – REVISION AND LESSON EVALUATION

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Lists the different food eaten by each pupils in a day.

3. Classifies the food into food types.

Pupil’s Activities – Closely observe and identify foodstuffs that can make up a balanced diet.

4. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
