LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should to,

1. explain the term ’emergency’.

2. identify emergency that could be reported, e.g. robbery, accident, flood, fire outbreak, kidnapping, raping etc.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify and describe some of the emergency situations.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing some of the emergency situations in Nigeria.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

MEANING OF EMERGENCY 

An emergency is an unexpected situation that require urgent attention and action to avoid more harmful and dangerous hazardous. These situations are threat to lives and properties that require urgent and immediately attention.

 

 

EXAMPLES OF EMERGENCY SITUATIONS 

Emergency situations are harmful, dangerous and risky situations such as –

1. Accidents

2. Fire outbreak

3. Natural disaster such as flood, drought, storm, etc.

4. Explosion

5. Rape

6. Robbery

7. Health and physical challenges such as abuse, mental illness, etc.

8. Terrorism

9. Kidnaping

10. Street fighting

 

 

ACCIDENTS

Accident is an unplanned or unexpected events which cause injury or damage of lives and property.

 

FIRE OUTBREAK 

Fire outbreak is a sudden increase of fire. If fire outbreak is not properly control, it can destroy life and prosperity.

 

NATURAL DISASTER 

Natural disasters are sudden and terrible events such as flood, earthquake, etc. that causes great damage or loss of life.

 

EXPLOSION 

An explosion is a sudden, violent burst of energy from chemical reaction or explosive device such as bomb.

 

RAPE 

Rape is a forceful sexual intercourse with opposite or same sex.

 

ROBBERY

Robbery is an unlawful taking anything of value by force.

 

HEALTH RELATED CONDITIONS AND DISEASES 

Some people or most are not free from certain illness such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, and arthritis that commonly lead to disability and death.

 

TERRORISM

Terrorism is the used of violence and intimidation to create fear among the people.

 

KIDNAPING

Kidnaping is act of taking people away illegally in exchange for money or something else.

 

RIOTING 

Routing is a violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd.

 

 

LESSON 2 – THE IMPORTANCE (BENEFITS) OF REPORTING EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

1. To save lives and properties.

2. To reduce or prevent criminal activities.

3. To prevent future occurring.

4. To provide medical support and assistance to the affected people.

5. To protect people from any forms of threat.

6. To prevent invasion or attack on lives and properties.

7. To maintain peace and order, etc.

 

REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT – As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups or pair depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher lead group’s discussion on some of the emergency situations that could be reported.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify and discuss some of the emergency situations that could be reported.

4. Teacher listens to the group’s active participation and uses their relevant responses to introduce the lesson – Meaning of Emergency and Emergency Situation that Could Be Reported.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of the lesson.

5. Teacher guides the pupils to explain the meaning of emergency with relevant examples.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils explain term emergency by given examples of emergency situations.

6. Teacher leads a class discussion on the importance or benefits of reporting any emergency situation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils appreciate the importance of reporting emergency situations.

7. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board with appropriate evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
