By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

2. state the types of race.

3. take part in middle distance race.

The pupils do participate in the school annual inter house sport.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITY 1 

Teacher’s Activities – Guide the pupils to talk about their role(s) in the last inter house sport.

Pupil’s Activities – I came first, second or third in the 100 m (200 m) junior metres race, etc.

Teacher’s Activities – Good job you. Race is an important race in the annual school inter house sport. Discuss and summary the meaning (types) of race.

 

MEANING OF RACE

Race is the contest or competition of speed.

 

It also means running.

 

TYPES OF RACES

1. Sprints or Short Distance Races

2. Middle Distance Races

3. Long Distance Races

4. Hurdles and Relay Races

 

ACTIVITY 2 

Teacher’s Activities – Take the pupils out to the field. Organize them into two or more groups for short distance race. Before any races, guide each participant to obey the starting command. That’s,

  • On your mark
  • Get set 
  • Go

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the short distance race.

Teacher’s remark – This kind of race is called short distance. This is the race we run for short time or periods. The race includes 50 m, 75 m, 100 m, 200 m and 400 m race.

 

PRE LESSON ACTIVITIES

Ask the pupils to get a sneaker for tomorrow race.

Get some of the non teaching staff that supports you in race.

Finally, get glucose and water. Any pupils that is tired should be stop and give give glucose water solution to rest and relax.

 

LESSON 2 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – Take the pupils out to the field for middle distance race.

 

Pupil’s Activities – Participate in the middle distance race.

Teacher’s remark – Celebrate the pupils active participation. Take them back to the class to rest before the next subject.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Discuss the meaning (types) of race.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate in the class discussion.

3. Leads pupils to take part in short distance race for the purpose of introducing middle distance race.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in short and middle distance race.

5. Summary the key points on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher write.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
