CONTENT OF THE LESSON
HAND WASHING
Hand Washing is part of our personal hygiene. It is also part of our religious and cultural custom for many years now.
The needs to wash our hands before eating and every other times are very important to prevent the spread of germs and COVID 19 virus.
WHEN TO WASH OUR HANDS?
1. before eating
2. before preparing or serving food
3. after using the bathroom
4. after blowing your nose or coughing
5. after touching pets or other animals
6. after playing outside
7. before and after visiting a sick relative or friend
8. whenever your hands are dirty
IMPORTANCE OF WASHING OUR HANDS BEFORE EATING?
When you eat a meal without washing your hands, the germs on your hands go into your mouth.
Germs can cause infections like sore throats and stomach flu.
Hand washing is vital because our hands spread illnesses.
Washing our hands properly with better soap can reduce the number of germs on our hands and the risk of getting sick.
ITEMS USED FOR WASHING HANDS BEFORE EATING
1. Warm or cold water
2. Liquid or bar soap
3. A bar or washing hand basin
4. Hand towel, serviette or hand drier.
WASH AND SING
Guide the pupils to demonstrate how to wash their hands correctly.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps – he/she,
1. Revises the previous lesson based on the pupil’s related knowledge or experience.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in lesson review.
2. Displays charts or pictures of hand washing procedures.
3. Lets the pupils examine the charts and each step of hand washing.
Pupil’s Activities – State and discuss the steps of hand washing.
4. Uses the charts to introduce the lesson and discuss on hand washing with songs and rhymes.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate in the class discussion.
5. Tells a short story that illustrates the importance of hand washing.
6. Asks the pupils to state the importance and moral lesson of the story.
Pupil’s Activities – Listen attentively to the story and state the moral lesson of the story.
7. Leads the pupils to how to wash their hands properly with appropriate items.
Pupil’s Activities – Demonstrate how to wash their hands properly.
8. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively the summary of the lesson.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
