CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – MEANING (TYPES) OF FAMILY 

A family is a group of people related by blood as a nuclear or an extended family.

There are two (2) of families: Nuclear and extended families.

1. Nuclear family is the smallest unit of family that consists of the father, mother and their children.

 

2. Extended family is the family beyond nuclear family. It consists of the father, mother and their children with grandparents, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, in laws and others.

 

OTHER PEOPLE THAT CAN BE FOUND IN THE FAMILY

We have different kinds of people living with members of our families.

These relationships are called special names such as –

1. Uncle

2. Aunty

3. Niece

4. Nephew

5. Cousin

6. Grandparent i.e. grandfather and grandmother

7. Grandchildren

8. Step-parent

9. Step-children

10. Steward

11. House-help

 

LESSON 2 – HOW THEY RELATE WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY

1. UNCLE 

A brother or brother-in-law of someone’s parent, i.e. your uncle are brother of your father and mother.

 

2. AUNT

 

A sister or sister-in-law of someone’s parent, i.e. your aunts are sisters of your father and mother.

 

3. COUSIN

The son or daughter of a person’s uncle or aunt; a first cousin, your cousins are children of your uncles and aunts.

 

4. NIECE

A daughter of someone’s sibling (brothers or sisters), brother-in-law, or sister-in-law.

 

5. NEPHEWS 

A son of someone’s sibling (brothers or sisters), brother-in-law, or sister-in-law.

 

6. GRANDPARENTS 

Grandparents are the parents of a person’s father or mother

 

7. GRANDCHILDREN 

Grandchildren are the children of one’s son or daughter.

 

8. STEP PARENTS

 

A parent who is married to the father or mother of a child, but who is not that child’s own father or mother; a stepfather or stepmother.

 

9. STEP CHILDREN

Step children are children of one’s husband or wife by a previous marriage.

 

10. STEWARDS

A steward is the person who manages the property or affairs for another entity.

 

11. HOUSE HELPS

House help is someone who is paid to help with the cleaning and take care of someone else’s home.

 

LESSON 3 – OBLIGATIONS OF OTHER PEOPLE IN THE FAMILY

1. Caring for one another others.

2. Supporting one another in need.

3. Defending one another.

4. Teaching some part of the culture –

  • Greetings
  • Fairness
  • Respect
  • Folk story
  • Correcting our misbehaviours, etc.

 

IMPORTANCE OF TOLERATING OTHER PEOPLE IN THE FAMILY

1. To show love to one other.

 

2. To live peacefully to another.

3. To care and respect one another.

4. To forgive and forget one another, etc.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Uses picture to explain other people in the family and their relationship;

Pupil’s Activities – React to pictures on other people living with the family by indicating their names and relationship.

3. Guides pupils to recall the duties which other people living with the family play in their individual home;

Pupil’s Activities – Recall the duties of other people living with the family.

4. Uses case studies to carry out a guided discussion on the importance of tolerating other people in the family;

Pupil’s Activities – Answering questions based on the content of the case studies presented in order to get a list of importance of tolerating other people in the family.

5. Summary the lesson on the board.

Pupils Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
