PREVIOUS LESSON – IMPORTANCE OF PHYSICAL FITNESS (PRIMARY 4)
TOPIC: BASIC MOVEMENTS IN GYMNASTIC – FLOOR ACTIVITIES
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:
- mention some basic floor activities.
- perform basic floor activities.
ENTRY BEHAVIOR
The pupils are required to already have learned measuring physical fitness components.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Charts
2. Video
3. Mats
4. Wide open space
METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
Gymnastics are activities which are performed on the floor, and on apparatus. They also involve free movement and tumbling.
Gymnastics can be performed in an open space, indoors or outdoors.
BASIC MOVEMENTS IN GYMNASTIC – FLOOR ACTIVITIES
The floor activities are also known as tumbling activities. These activities include,
WEEK 7
1. Walking
2. Running
3. Hopping
4. Jumping
TEACHER’S/PUPIL’S ACTIVITIES – PERFORM THE ABOVE FLOOR ACTIVITIES
WEEK 8
5. Twisting
6. Courting
7. Stretching
TEACHER’S/PUPIL’S ACTIVITIES – PERFORM THE ABOVE FLOOR ACTIVITIES
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Explains the skills in the various floor activities.
3. Demonstrates the basic floor activities.
Pupils’ activities – Listen and watch teacher’s demonstrations.
Pupil’s Activities – Practice the basic floor activities.
3. Supervises the pupils.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
