PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

state factors which encourage abuse of drugs.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Charts showing commonly drugs abuse

Video clips

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION 

A drug is any substance that can change the activities of the body. Some of these substances can make us sleepy, excited, awake or take away pains.

There are drug that capable of affecting the mind, emotions, and behavior.

Drug use is normally used according to doctor’s prescription.

 

 

MEANING OF DRUG ABUSE 

Drug abuse is the wrong (misuse) of drugs to get self drive. Drugs used this ways are not prescribed by doctors, nurses or pharmacists.

 

FACTORS WHICH ENCOURAGE ABUSE OF DRUG 

1. Ways of first contact with the drugs.

 

2. Proper ways – through illness.

Drugs received from the hospitals and traditional homes.

 

3. Improper ways – through friends, families and strangers.

 

4. Curiosity through advert promotion.

 

REVISION AND WEEK 5 LESSON ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Lets pupils identify drugs on the charts;

Pupil’s Activities – Identify drugs on the charts.

3. Guides pupils to states why we use of drugs;

Pupil’s Activities – State the we use drugs.

4. Discusses the meaning of drug and abuse of drug;

Pupil’s Activities – Explain the meaning of drugs.

5. Discusses the factors which encourage abuse of drugs.

Questions and answers;

Pupil’s Activities – Listen, ask and answer questions.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
  • Assignment – Make a list of drugs received from hospitals and traditional homes.
