TOPIC – Passages Based on Illustrating ‘When’ Adverbial Structures in Longer Sentences 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. Read passages containing the use of ‘when’ adverbial sentences in longer sentences.

2. Use the expression accurately in their own sentences (oral and written).

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

PASSAGES ILLUSTRATING ‘WHEN’ ADVERBIAL STRUCTURES IN LONGER SENTENCES 

  • When is used in questions.

For example, when can I go home.

 

  • When can be used to mean ”at which time” or ”on which occasion”.

Example, we are cutting grass on the field when the rain started.

 

  • When is also used after an expression of time to mean ”at which” or ”on which”.

Example, Saturday is the only day when I can wash my clothes.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Gives sample reading.

Pupil’s Activities – Read the given passage.

3. Asks pupils questions that will involve the use of ‘when’ adverbial.

Pupil’s Activities – Give answer to questions on the passage. Construct sentences with the use of ‘when’ adverbial.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

Pupils to:

1. Read passages and understand the use of ‘when’ adverbial sentences in longer sentences.

2. Use the expression accurately in their own sentences (oral and written).
