CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF RELIGION 

Religion is the belief in and worship of God or gods. A belief is an attitude or opinion that something is the true.

Religion belief can be a powerful and life-altering experience and is important to people’s lives.

 

TYPES OF RELIGION 

The types of religion in Nigeria are –

1. Traditional religion

 

These include Sango worshippers, the Obatala worshippers, the Amadioha worshippers and the Olokun worshippers.

 

2. Christian religion

These are the Roman Catholic, the Church Missionary Society (CMS), the Baptist and the Pentecostal Movement, among others.

The Christian place of worship is known as church. Rosemary, Bible, anointing oil, etc. Are used for worshipping.

 

3. Islamic religion 

These are the Ansar-ud-deen, the Ahmadiyya and the Nawar-ud-deen sects.

The Muslims place of worship is known mosque.

 

LESSON 2 – MEANING OF RELIGION TOLERANCE

Religious tolerance is the ability to accept that other people have the rights to practice their own religion.

 

IMPORTANCE OF RELIGION TOLERANCE

Tolerance is an important concept that helps people to live together peacefully and,

1. Respect for one another.

2. Understanding

3. Living in peace with one another.

4. Togetherness

5. Willingness to help, support and respect for one another.

 

LESSON 3 – MEANING OF RELIGION INTOLERANCE 

Religious Intolerance is our inability to accept that other have the rights to practice their religions.

This means an unwillingness to accept different religion beliefs, faith and practice.

 

There have been a lot of conflicts in Nigeria because of inability to tolerate one another religion beliefs, faith and practice.

Religious Intolerance, is when a religious group specifically refuses to tolerate practices, faith or beliefs on religious grounds.

 

CAUSES OF RELIGION INTOLERANCE 

1. Ignorance

2. Impatience

3. Selfishness

4. Ethnicity

 

PROBLEMS OF RELIGION INTOLERANCE 

1. Unfriendly relationships

2. Riot

3. Destruction of lives and properties

4. Reduce economic activities

5. Public disturbances

6. Hatred

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Asks pupils to recite National pledge and anthem.

 

Pupil’s Activities – Recite National pledge and sing the National anthem.

3. Lays emphasis on the key points of the National anthem and pledge.

Pupil’s Activities – Discuss the key point national anthem and pledge.

4. Discusses the different between religion tolerance and religion intolerance.

Pupil’s Activities – Discuss the reason why people unable to accept other people’s beliefs and the consequences.

5. Explains what constitute religious Intolerance;

Pupil’s Activities – Pay visit to churches and mosques and discuss with religious leaders about what they are doing to reduce religious Intolerance.

6. Summary the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
