THEME – LISTENING AND SPEAKING 

 

TOPIC – SIMPLE GREETINGS AND COMMANDS 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. greet and respond to simple greetings with appropriate tones.

2. give and carry out simple commands and

3. differentiate between tones in greetings and commands.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of pictures depicting modes of greeting among various groups and charts.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Good morning, children.

Good morning, sir/ma/Mr. Michael

 

GREETINGS AT HOME 

Greetings at home and appropriate time for particular greetings –

  • In the morning – good morning, sir/ma
  • In the afternoon – good afternoon, sir/ma
  • In the evening – good evening, sir/ma

 

GREETINGS IN THE MORNING 

Pupil: “Good morning dad, how do you do?”

Dad: “Good morning Ade, how do you do?”

 

GREETINGS AT SCHOOL 

People in the school are teachers, gateman, cleaners, food vendors and visitors.

Pupil: “Good morning Madam/Sir/Mr. Obi”

Teacher: “Good morning Olu, how are you?”

Pupil: “I am very well, thank you Sir.”

 

GREETINGS IN THE COMMUNITY

People in the community are the neighbours, elders/clan heads, nurse, doctor.

“Good afternoon” Doctor/Sir/ Madam etc.

 

LESSON 2 – SIMPLE COMMANDS

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Creates home and schools atmosphere through role play characters e.g. father, mother, elder, teacher, etc.

Pupil’s Activities – Role-play members of the family, home, school and class community.

3. Demonstrates appropriate greeting for each character.

Pupil’s Activities – Demonstrate appropriate greetings for different people.

4. Encourages pupils to greet one another with appropriate gestures.

Pupil’s Activities – Greet and respond to greetings from colleagues.

5. Gives commands and demands appropriate responses from pupils.

Pupil’s Activities – Obey the teacher’s commands. Model giving and obeying commands in pairs.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

LESSON EVALUATION 

Ask pupils to – 

1. greet and respond to simple greetings and

2. give and respond to commands using the appropriate tone.
