PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. observe and identify things that float in air.

2. state the effects of moving air.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Aeroplane, bird, etc.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Balloon, piece of paper, leaf, feather, cotton wool, etc.

2. Mouth, standing or ceiling fan and hand fan.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

WRITING INSTRUCTIONS

Copy as I write or draw as I draw. This instruction should be given when you need the pupils to write or draw.

 

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES

Teacher’s Activities – Get inflated balloons and stones for the pupils to demonstrate by throwing both into the air and identify the object that float in air.

Pupil’s response – Balloons float in the air.

Teacher’s remark – There are some objects that can float in air. Give a great cheer for active participate and quick response. Guide them to demonstrate other objects that float in air.

THINGS (OBJECTS) THAT FLOAT IN THE AIR 

Examples of objects that float in are are as follow –

1. Balloon

2. Cotton wool

3. Piece of paper

 

 

4. Foam from soapy water

5. Feather

6. Leaf

7. Kite

8. Parachute

9. Polythene bag

10. Dust

 

Ask the pupils, what do they observe in each activity. Expected response – FLOATING.

LESSON 2 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s/pupil’s Discussion on the Effects of Moving Air with adequate chart.

After the discussion, summary the lesson on board and instruct the pupils to write.

EFFECTS OF MOVING AIR

Moving air is known as wind.

Wind has good and bad effects –

Good Effects of Moving Air 

1. It supports life.

2. It supports movement.

3. It supports plants growth.

4. It moves things like ships, boats and flies kites.

5. It generates electricity.

Bad Effects of Moving Air 

1. It causes wind erosion.

2. It blows away the roofs.

3. It falls trees.

4. It destroys crop plants.

5. It destroys farmlands.

6. It destroys lives and properties.

 

LESSON 3 – MAKING KITE AND PARACHUTE

Note – Major of the pupils know how to make kite. Let them learn from one another and guide them to make parachute.

Making and flying a parachute, we need the following items –

1. An handkerchief

 

 

2. Four ropes of equal length

3. A small metal or wood ring

 

Instructions

1. Tie the four rope to the corners of the handkerchief.

2. Tie the loose end of the ropes to the metal or wood.

3. Throw it in the air or drop from height.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides pupils to name things that float in the air.

Pupil’s Activities – Throw things in the air and identify those that float and those that do not.

3. Discuss the effects of moving air.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate in the class discussion.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
