CONTENT OF THE LESSON
MEANING AND EXAMPLES OF DRUG
WHAT IS THE MEANING OF DRUG?
Drugs are the medicines we take when we are sick to get well. Apart from the food we eat, drugs also help us to feel better.
Drugs come in different forms such as liquids, tablets and inhalers.
1. Liquid drugs are syrups that look like water. Most of syrups are sweet while others are bitter. Syrups are mostly used for children and older people.
2. Tablet drugs strong and soft medicines that we swallow. They are in small, round or in oval shape. Tablets are mostly used by adults.
3. Injections are liquid drugs given through a tiny needle. Only doctors or nurses can give injections.
4. Inhalers are medicines that we take through the nose or mouth allow us to breathe properly.
WHO CAN GIVE MEDICINE?
Not all types of drugs can be given at home or by someone without special training. Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers are trained to give us drugs or medicines safely.
Don’t take drugs or any forms of medicines by yourself or from anyone who is not a doctor or nurse.
Our parents can also give us drugs or medicines if they are doctors or nurses. If they are not, they can still give us just the ways the doctors or nurses have tell them. But our parents cannot give us injections except they are doctors or nurses.
WHY DO WE TAKE DRUGS?
We take drugs when we are sick or not feeling too well. When our parents notice that we are unwell, they take us to the hospital for the doctors or nurses to examine us and give us drugs that can make us get better.
