Chart showing clothes spread on the line

Chart showing a man sitting under the tree receiving a fresh air.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Discussion on air as in the previous lesson.

Air is the the mixture of gases that surround us.

The gases are invisible, odorless and tasteless.

Air is everywhere on the earth.

Wind is air in motion.

 

 

PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION OF EACH PROPERTIES OF AIR

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Instruction 

1. Air has weight 

Instructions

1. Inflate three balls.

2. Place a plywood on the balloons.

3. Ask a pupil to sit on it.

4. Questions – What do you observe? 

5. Expected response – The balloons hold the child sitting it. 

 

2. Air has occupies space 

1. Fill a bucket with water.

2. Put a bottle upside down into the bucket of water.

3. Questions – What do you observe? 

4. Expected response – The water cannot go inside the bottle. 

5. Gently turn the mouth of the bottle towards the surface of the water.

6. Questions – What do you observe? Is the bottle empty at all? 

7. Expected response – The air is coming out for the water to go in. The bottle is not empty, it is occupied by air. 

 

 

Teacher’s Remark – After the pupils were able to identify that air has weight and space, note these points on the board and discuss pressure with the pupils.

 

PROPERTIES OF AIR

1. Air has weight.

USES OF AIR 

1. Air supports lives – breathing.

2. Air supports water cycle – rainfall.

3. Air supports pollination – plants reproduction.

4. Air helps in transport – movement on land, in the air, on and inside water.

5. Air minimizes pollution.

6. Air regulates temperature.

7. Clothes drying.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Asks pupils to explain Air.
