PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to name some local vegetable crops.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify different vegetable crops.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Posters, charts and fresh specimen of local vegetables.

 

 

2. Vegetables e.g. lettuce, cabbage, etc.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTORY QUESTIONS 

Teacher’s Activities – Display samples or chart showing different vegetable crops for the pupils to identify and state their favourite vegetable .

Pupil’s Activities – Water leaf, bitter leaf, etc. I like pumpkin leaf.

Teacher’s remark – I like _______ too. Crops are grown and harvest by farmers. Vegetables are one of the crops grown and harvest by farmers. There are a lot of vegetable crops in our community. Note all the vegetables identified by the pupils on the board and ask them the meaning of vegetable crops.

 

 

Note – Welcome the local names of all the vegetables mentioned by the pupils. 

 

MEANING OF VEGETABLE CROPS 

Vegetable crops are the parts of plants that produce the leaves, stems and roots as food people eat.

For examples,

 

VEGETABLES

1. Water leaf

2. Bitter leaf (Ewuro in Yoruba)

3. Pumpkin leaf (Ugu in Igbo)

4. Jute leaf (Ewedu in Yoruba)

5. Spinach (Efo Shoko in Yoruba)

6. African Spinach (Efo Tete in Yoruba)

7. Oha leaf in Igbo

8. Onion leaf, etc.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Displays specimen of common vegetable.

 

 

Pupil’s Activities – Observe vegetables closely.

3. Displays charts of common vegetables.

Pupil’s Activities – Mention vegetables frequently eaten by the family.

4. Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Bring different vegetables from home.

5. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
