By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. differentiate between alcohol and tobacco
2. state reasons why people drink or smoke
3. differentiate between the effects of alcohol and tobacco on human body.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of –
Charts showing various drugs,
Posters showing different alcohol and tobacco.
METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION
A drug is any substance that can change the activities of the body.
Some of these substances can make us sleepy, excited, awake or take away pains.
There are drug that capable of affecting the mind, emotions, and behavior. Among these drugs are alcohol and tobacco which are used excessively.
ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO
ALCOHOL
Alcohol is a drug, a liquor substance that change or affects the mind, or mental state.
Beer, wine, whiskey, gin, burukutu (local drink made from guinea corn), palm wine and ogogoro (local gin), are good examples of alcoholic drinks.
TOBACCO
REASONS FOR DRINKING OR SMOKING
1. To feel high, that is, feel strangely happy or satisfied.
2. To prove a points among friends and family members.
3. To boost confidence.
4. To fight shyness.
5. To aid performance.
6. To avoid stress.
7. For fun and enjoyment.
8. To express happiness.
9. For celebration.
10. To reduce pain and ache.
11. To get out of boredom and loneliness.
LESSON TWO – EFFECTS OF DRINKING AND SMOKING
1. High Blood Pressure
When you drink excessively and smoke, you increase your chances of getting high blood pressure.
2. Lung Cancer
Smoking and drinking is one of the leading risk factors for this disease.
3. Erectile Dysfunction
To achieve an erection, males must have a steady flow of blood going to the penis.
4. High Cholesterol
Cholesterol is produced naturally in the liver and it is used by the body for hormone and cell production.
5. Heart attack
6. Dizziness and discomfort
7. Truancy
8. Violence
9. Robbery and murder
REVISION AND WEEK 11 ASSESSMENT (TEST)
As stated in the performance objectives or lesson evaluation.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Uses posters to explain to the pupils the differences between alcohol and tobacco;
Pupil’s Activities – Differentiate between alcohol and tobacco.
3. Leads pupils to discuss reasons why people drink and smoke;
Pupil’s Activities – Participate in classroom discussion and group activities.
4. Discusses the effects of drug abuse on individuals, family and society;
Pupil’s Activities – Identify the effects of smoking and alcohol on people.
5. Questions and answers;
Pupil’s Activities – Listen, ask and answer questions.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

Pupils to:

2. state at least one reason why people drink or smoke
