This lesson builds on that knowledge by teaching pupils who is regarded as a child under the Child Rights Act and how the Child Rights Law in Lagos State protects children from abuse, exploitation, discrimination, and other forms of harm.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
Children are important members of every family and community. Because children are still growing and developing, they need special care, protection, and support.
Under the Child Rights Act, a child is a person under 18 years of age. Lagos State also has a Child’s Rights Law that provides protection for children and promotes their welfare and development.
In this lesson, pupils will learn about the definition of a child under the Child Rights Act, the Child Rights Law in Lagos State, and how the law protects children from abuse, exploitation, discrimination, and harmful practices.
LESSON 1 – DEFINITION OF A CHILD UNDER THE CHILD RIGHTS ACT
Under the Child Rights Act (CRA) 2003, a child is a person who is under the age of 18 years.
The law provides special protection for children because they are still growing and developing.
CHILD RIGHTS LAW IN LAGOS STATE
Lagos State has laws and institutions for protecting the rights and welfare of children. The Child’s Rights Law of Lagos State provides for the protection, care, development, and welfare of children in the state.
The law helps to protect children from:
