PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. analyse road traffic signs.
2. state the function of each road traffic light signs.
3. explain roadway signs.
4. appraise the importance of road signs.
ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
The pupils can identify different colours.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing traffic light signs.
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
With the help of other staff, teacher takes the pupils to the nearest traffic light point (if available) observe how road traffic light work. For example, to observe the colour lights, Red – Stop, Yellow – Ready, Green – Go.
MEANING OF ROAD TRAFFIC LIGHT
Road traffic light signs are lights used to control the movement of traffic.
They are placed on roads. The different colors of lights tell drivers what to do. That’s, to stop, get ready and go.
ROAD TRAFFIC LIGHT SIGNS AND COLOUR
Road traffic light has three (3) colours such as,
1. Red
2. Yellow
3. Green
LESSON TWO – FUNCTIONS OF TRAFFIC LIGHT SIGNS
The functions of traffic light signs are as follows:
RED LIGHT
Red means STOP
YELLOW LIGHT
Yellow means READY TO GO/WAIT
GREEN LIGHT
Green means GO
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups depending on the size of the class.
3. With the help of other staff, teacher takes the pupils to the nearest traffic light point (if available) observe how road traffic light work. For example, to observe the colour lights, Red – Stop, Yellow – Ready, Green – Go.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify the meaning of each traffic light.
4. Teacher displays a chart showing traffic lights and uses the pupils responses in activity 3 to introduce the lesson.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction.
5. Teacher leads a class discussion on traffic lights and their functions.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the class discussion and state meaning of each traffic light.
6. Teacher organizes a short drama to demonstrate the functions of traffic lights.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the short drama to appreciate the important functions of traffic light.
7. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board by using appropriate lesson evaluation.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding to most of the questions and write as instructed.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
