CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

In English grammar, a verb is an action word, while an object is the person or thing that receives the action.

Some verbs are used together with prepositions or particles to form special meanings. These are called:

  • Prepositional verbs (e.g. listen to, look at, depend on)
  • Phrasal verbs (e.g. pick up, turn off, put on)

In these types of verbs, the position of the object is very important for correct sentence meaning.

Examples:

  • She looked at the picture.
  • We listened to the teacher.
  • Pick up the book.
