TOPIC: EXPOSITORY OR EXPLANATORY COMPOSITION 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. Write composition on expository or explanatory types.

2. Make a clear logical presentation of point.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

The pupils can write a simple essay.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of pictures of marriage, celebration, road accidents or similar events extract from books, newspapers or magazines.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

WRITING A COMPOSITION ON EXPOSITION/EXPLANATION 

Writing a composition one exposition/explanation requires logical sequencing i.e. one thing thing happens before the next thing and so on.

Explanation of an event, e.g. causes of road accidents, marriage custom and traditional, etc.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Explains how to present ideas in a logical order.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen attentively to the teacher.

3. Let’s the pupils discuss either ‘a traditional marriage I witness or causes of road accidents’ in an informal way so that everybody will be interested in contributing ideas.

Pupil’s Activities – Discuss the given topic in an informal way.

4. Lets the pupils put down their ideas in writing.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – narrative essay.

Ask pupils to write an expository essay in a logical order.
