By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. state the meaning of balanced diet.
2. state the importance of a balanced diet.
The pupils identify the composition of balanced diets.
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of pictorial display of children suffering from kwashiorkor, goiter, knock/bow legs.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
Teacher’s Activities – Display pictorial display of children with good health and children suffering from kwashiorkor, goiter, knock/bow legs for the pupils to examine and discuss nature of the two children.
Pupil’s Activities – Response to the teacher’s instructions.
Teacher’s remark – Balanced diet is very important for good health. One of the children is taken balanced diet and the other one is suffering from lack of balanced diet. Give a great cheer for active participation and discuss the importance of balanced diet.

IMPORTANCE OF BALANCED DIET
Balanced diets are the different types of food that provide adequate amounts of the nutrients necessary for good health. It is necessary because –
1. It builds the body.
2. It growths and repairs of body tissue.
3. It gives energy to the body.
4. It protects the body against diseases.
LESSON 2 – REVISION AND LESSON EVALUATION
As stated in the performance objectives or lesson evaluation.
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Discuss the importance of balanced diets.
Pupil’s Activities – Active participation in the class discussion.
3. Summary the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes on the board.
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
Ask pupils to state 3 importance of balanced diets.
