DIVISIBILITY RULES

Divisibility Rules let you test whether one whole number is divisible by another.

It is a quick way to find factors of large numbers.

1. Any number (not a fraction) is divisible by 1.

2. If the last digit is even – 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.

For example: 1246.

3. If the sum of digits is divisible by 3.

For example – 126, 1 + 2 + 6 = 9/3.

4. If the last 2 digits are divisible by 4.

For example – 512, 12/4.

5. If the last digit is 0 or 5.

For example – 270 or 405.

6. If it is even and is divisible by 3.

The first and second rules are applicable.

For example – 228, 2 + 2 + 8 = 12/3.

7. Divisible by 7, no rule. Divide where applicable.

8. If the last 3 digits are divisible by 8.

For example – 3408 408/8 = 51.

9. If the sum of digits is divisible by 9.

For example – 3258, 3 + 2 + 5 + 8 = 18/9.

10. If the last digit ends in 0.

For example – 100/10.
