CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

MEANING OF FAMILY

Family is made up of people who is related to one another blood.

 

MEANING OF FAMILY VALUES 

Family values are the traditions or moral principles which are transmitted within a family.

Family values can guide your entire family to become the kind of people you want to be.

 

EXAMPLES OF FAMILY VALUES 

1. Self-compassion

2. Empathy and kindness toward others

3. Responsibility

4. Honesty

5. Integrity

6. Implementing and respecting boundaries

7. Family time

8. Perseverance

LESSON 2 – STAGES OF FAMILY CYCLES 

MEAN OF FAMILY CYCLES 

Family circle is the members of a particular family that is regarded as family.

 

STAGES OF FAMILY CYCLES

Stages of family life cycle are –

1. Individual/Independence

2. Marriage

3. Childbearing

4. Parenting

5. Launching adult children

6. Middle years

7. Retirement or senior years

 

INDIVIDUAL

Individual stage is known as independent or separation stage.

This is a stage where a child becomes a young adult, independent and speared from parents and family.

 

MARRIAGE

Marriage stage is a stage where a person joins with another to form the foundation of a new family.

 

CHILDBEARING

Childbearing stage is a stage where a new member is added to a family forced the new couple of adjust a new role as parents.

 

PARENTING

Parenting stage is a stage where parents take responsibility for their child/ren on daily basis.

 

LAUNCHING ADULT CHILD

Launching adulthood stage is known as empty nest stage.

This is when the first/older child of the family leaves home and ends to handle life’s challenges all alone.

 

MIDDLE YEARS

Middle years is also known as middle aged stage.

This is a stage where both parents are back to one another again.

 

SENIOR YEARS 

Senior year is a freedom stage where both parents are free from the responsibilities of parenting to enjoy the fruits of their labour.

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps – he/she,

1. Revises the previous lesson based on the pupil’s related knowledge or experience.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in lesson review.

2. Displays a chart showing a simple family life of a father, mother and their children.

3. Guides and lets the pupils analyze the contents of the chart in groups or pairs.

4. Uses the chart and pupil’s responses to introduce the lesson.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of lessons.

5. Leads a discussion on the meaning of family values with appropriate examples.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the class discussion, identify and explain each stage of family values.

6. Displays another chart showing the family life cycle.

7. Guides and lets the pupils analyze the contents of the chart in groups or pairs.

8. Uses the chart and pupil’s responses to introduce the lesson.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of lessons.

9. Leads a discussion on the meaning of family life cycle with appropriate examples.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the class discussion, identify and explain each stage of family life cycle.

10. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
