By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain the meaning of social media.

2. state the types social media.

3. discuss the advantages and disadvantages of social media.

Most of the pupils can identify the most popular social media.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing some of the social logo.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Social media is an online community where the users create and share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content.

 

TYPES/CATEGORIES OF SOCIAL MEDIA 

The following are the major types of social media,

 

1. Social Networking

2. Photo Sharing

3. Video Sharing

4. Interactive Media

5. Blogging

 

1. SOCIAL NETWORKING 

Social networking is the social media platforms that enable users to make friends, form a social relationship or connect with family and friends.

The most popular social networking sites are Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

 

2. PHOTO SHARING 

Photo sharing is the platform that enables users of share imagine or photo related contents.

The most popular photo sharing sites are Instagram, Pinterest, Flickr or Photo bucket

 

3. VIDEO SHARING

Video sharing is the platform that enables users of share video related contents.

The most popular video sharing sites are YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, Vimeo, Instagram, etc.

 

4. INTERACTIVE MEDIA 

Interactive media the platform that enables the users of interactive with one another through video and photo.

The common interactive media are TikTok and Snapchat.

 

5. BLOGGING 

Blogging is the platform that writes about personal opinions, activities,  experiences, etc.

 

 

LESSON 2 – ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF SOCIAL MEDIA

ADVANTAGES OF SOCIAL MEDIA 

The advantages of social media are as follows:

1. To build personal and business relationships.

2. To share your professionalism.

3. To educate yourself.

4. To connect your family and friends.

5. To reduce the cost of marketing.

6. To promote your brand and network.

7. To get online jobs.

8. To entertain online.

9. To connect with the larger communities.

10. To increase your visibility.

 

DISADVANTAGES OF SOCIAL MEDIA 

The disadvantages of social media are as follows:

1. Inappropriate content

2. Online threats

3. Mislead information

4. Source fake news

5. Easy addiction

6. Source of crime and bullying

7. Negative impact on children

8.  Source of distraction

9. Destroy relationships, family, reputation, etc.

 

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST) 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.

 

3. Teacher displays chart showing different types social media icons such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

4. Teacher lets pupils to identify the social media.

5. Teacher asks pupils if they have any of social media account and what do they used it for.

Pupil’s Activities – State the reasons for creating any of the social media accounts, if any.

6. Teacher uses the responses to introduce the lesson and discuss the meaning and types of social media.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of the lesson.

7. Teacher explains the advantages and disadvantages of social media with appropriate examples or illustrations.

Pupil’s Activities – Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of social media in their communities.

8. Teacher summarizes the lessons on the board with appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
