PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. explain the meaning of agricultural technology.

2. state the different between traditional and modern farming.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Chart showing traditional and modern tools.

Video clips of traditional and modern farmers working on their farm.

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION

Agriculture involves cultivation of land, farming, and rearing of animals.

MEANING OF AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY 

Agricultural Technology is the used of technology (machines like tractors, planters, harvesters, etc.) for land cultivation, farming and rearing of animals.

WAYS OF LAND CULTIVATION

Traditional Ways of Land Cultivation 

Traditional farming is the used of simple farm tools like hoes, cutlass, baskets, hooks, fishing nets, etc. This method is complete used of simple tools for growing crops, rearing of animals, fishing, etc.

Modern Ways of Land Cultivation 

Modern farming is the used of modern tools like tractor and ploughing instead of hoes and cutlass, harvester, fertilizer, insecticide and pesticides, trawler, etc.

REVISION AND WEEK 11 LESSON ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides pupils to identify and make a list of agricultural products and tools;

Pupil’s Activities – Identify and make a list of agricultural products and tools.

3. Leads and explains the meaning of agricultural technology;

Pupil’s Activities – Explain the meaning of agricultural products.

4. Guides and leads the pupils to differentiate between traditional method and modern modern of farming;

Pupil’s Activities – Differentiate between traditional method and modern modern of farming.

 

CONCLUSION

• To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

• Assignment

1. Find out the uses of tractor, ploughing, fertilizer, pesticides and insecticide.
2. Visit a farm near to you and find out their ways of farming.

• Next Lesson – Advantages and Disadvantages (Problems) of modern farming.
