PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. describe the features of modern marriage in Nigeria.
2. identify values associated with Christian marriage and Islamic marriage.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of pictures showing modern marriage.
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – MARRIAGE
Marriage is the union between a man and a woman to be husband and wife. Marriage is lawful and legal.
There are two types of marriages –
1. Traditional marriage
2. Modern marriage
MODERN MARRIAGE
Modern marriage is a marriage conducted in accordance to modern ways of life.
Before modern marriage takes place, traditional functions have to be performed by both families.
TYPES OF MODERN MARRIAGE
There are three types of modern marriage. These are –
1. Christian marriage
2. Muslim marriage
3. Ordinance (Court Married)
MEANING OF CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE
Christian marriage is a marriage conducted by a pastor or reverend father.
It takes place in the church.
FEATURES OF CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE
1. Husband and wife are joined by a Pastor or Reverend.
2. Bible is the basis of this marriage.
3. It allows only one husband with one wife.
4. The marriage takes place in the church.
5. Entertainment follows after the church ceremony at the reception.
LESSON 2 – MEANING OF MUSLIM MARRIAGE
This is a marriage conducted by an Imam.
Mostly the marriage takes place in a hall or an open field.
FEATURES OF MUSLIM MARRIAGE
1. Husband and wife are joined by an Imam.
2. Quran is the basis of this marriage.
3. It allows a man to marry more one wife.
4. The marriage takes place in the hall or open field.
5. Entertainment follows after the ceremony at the same place.
LESSON 3 – MEANING ORDINANCE (COURT MARRIAGE)
Ordinance is a marriage conducted by court registry.
It takes place at the registry.
FEATURES OF MARRIAGE BY ORDINANCE
1. Wedding vows are made.
2. Rings are exchanged.
3. Entertainment takes place at reception.
VALUES ASSOCIATED WITH CHRISTIAN, ISLAMIC MARRIAGE AND ORDINANCE
1. Love one another
2. Wife submissive
3. Care for each other
4. Fear of God
5. Prayerful
6. Forgive each other
7. Tolerate each other
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Asks pupils to explain the meaning of marriage.
Pupil’s Activities – Explain the meaning of marriage.
3. States and explain each types of marriage – traditional and modern marriages.
Pupil’s Activities – Differentiate between traditional and modern marriages.
4. Discusses each features of modern Christian, Muslim and Ordinance marriages.
Pupil’s Activities – State the features of modern – Christian, Muslim and Ordinance marriages.
5. Discusses the values of modern marriages – Christian, Muslim and Ordinance marriages.
Pupil’s Activities – State the of Christian, Muslim and Ordinance marriages.
6. Differentiates between traditional and modern marriages.
Pupil’s Activities – States the difference between traditional and modern marriages.
7. Summary the key points on the board.

CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
