PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. explain the meaning of tax.
2. discuss how to work for the success of the nation.
3. state national symbols that must be respected.

The pupils can identify and describe some of the Nigerian national identity.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES
Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Lead the pupils to discuss the following –
PAYMENT OF TAX
A tax is a compulsory levy imposed by the government on taxable citizens of a nation.
Tax is imposed on all citizens not as a criminal but as their duties and responsibilities to enable the government to provide basic and essential services.
The basic and essential services are free basic education, healthcare, good road, electricity, good governance, security, etc.
WORK FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE NATION
It duties of every citizens of Nigeria to work together to achieve peace and unity. United, any nation can stand any crisis but nations will fall if they are divided.
RESPECTING NATIONAL SYMBOLS
Our respects are not limited to people in our households and authorities, we must respect our national symbols such as national flag, national currencies, national anthems and pledge, etc.
LESSON 2 – PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION ON HOW TO RESPECT OUR NATIONAL SYMBOLS
Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Guide the pupils to demonstrate how to respect the following national symbols –
1. National anthems
2. National pledge
3. Nigerian currencies

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Leads a discussion on other elements of national identity.
