TOPIC: MELODY – MAKING CHOIR 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. define choir.

2. list different types of singing.

3. list different types of singing.

4. identify melody part singing.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

MEANING OF CHOIR 

A choir is a group of people who sing together, especially one that takes part in church services or performs in public. When groups of people come together to sing in different parts, it known as choir.

 

PARTS IN A CHOIR 

Soprano

The soprano is the highest female voice. That’s, a female singer with a high voice.

 

Alto

This is a male singer with a high voice lower than soprano.

 

Tenor

This is a second male singer with a high voice. It is lower than the alto but higher than the bass. In opera, male usually take role of role of singing in tenor.

 

Bass

This is a male singer with a lower voice. It supports the foundation of the music.

 

 

DIFFERENT TYPES OF SINGING 

Solo

A musical performance by a single person or instrument.

 

Duet

A musical performance by two person or instruments.

 

Trio

A musical performance by three person or instruments.

 

Quartet

A musical performance by four person or instruments.

 

Unison

A musical performance by five person or instruments.

 

Harmony

A musical performance by two or person or instruments simultaneously.

 

 IDENTIFICATION OF MELODIC PART IN A FOUR PART SINGING 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Defines what a choir means.

Pupil’s Activities – Explain choir.

3. Explains 4 Parts in a choir,  treble (soprano), alto, tenor and bass.

Pupil’s Activities – Mention 4 parts in a choir.

4. Lists types of singing – solo, duet, trio, quartet and quintet.

Pupil’s Activities – List 4 types of singing.

5. Assists students sing solo, duet.

Pupil’s Activities – Sing songs in solo, duet.

6. Identify melody in a harmony.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify melody pattern in a given song.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

LESSON EVALUATION

Pupils to:

1. explain the concept ”choir”.

2. list 4 parts in a choir.

3. mention 3 types of singing.

4. identify melody pattern in a given song.
