TOPIC: TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEMS IN NIGERIA 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. explain what telecommunication means;

2. identify telecommunication devices in Nigeria;

3. demonstrate how to use telecommunication devices;

4. state the problems (with solutions) of telecommunications.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of sample of telecommunication devices or chart.

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

Telecommunications is the means of sending and receiving information through a distance by television, telegraph, telephone, etc.

EXCURSION – Leads class discussion on how they work and organize a visit to one of them, e.g. NITEL,MTN, GLO and Airtel. 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Discusses telecommunication in Nigeria;

Pupil’s Activities – Find out and discuss the meaning of telecommunication.

3. Explains and discusses what communication devices are and where they are found;

Pupil’s Activities – Find out and list the telecommunication devices in Nigeria and where they are found.

4. Guides pupils to make list of telecommunication devices;

5. Discusses who maintains and pays for them, reasons why they do not work, what can be done to make them work;

Pupil’s Activities – Participate in the discussion.

6. Guides pupils to send and receive information on telephones, internet (WhatsApp or Telephone).

Pupil’s Activities – Send and receive information on telephones, internet (WhatsApp or Telephone).

7. Guides and supervises the making of toy telephones;

Pupil’s Activities – Making telecommunication devices.

CONCLUSION

• To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
