TOPIC – Asking Questions in the Present (Using Time Adverbial with Appropriate Responses) 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

  1. Ask questions in the present tense using time adverbials.
  2. Answer questions correctly using appropriate intonation.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

  1. Sentence strips
  2. Course book
  3. Charts containing sentences in the present

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

QUESTIONS IN THE PRESENT WITH ADVERBIAL 

Question 1 – Does Bola always eat banana? 

  • Positive responses
  1. Yes, he does.
  2. Yes, he always does.
  • Negative responses 
  1. No, he doesn’t.
  2. No, he doesn’t always like banana.

Question 2 – Does Segun often eat meat? 

  • Positive responses 
  1. Yes, he does.
  2. Yes, he often does.
  • Negative responses 
  1. No, he doesn’t.
  2. No, he doesn’t often eat meat.

Question 3 – Do Michael and Segun always like oranges? 

  • Positive responses 
  1. Yes, they do.
  2. Yes, they always like oranges
  • Negative responses 
  1. No, they don’t.
  2. No, they don’t always like oranges.

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Presents questions and reproduce to pupils using correct intonation.
  3. Pupil’s Activities – Listen attentively and repeat each question and response after the teacher
  4. Groups pupils and asks each group to reproduce each sentence after him.
  5. Pupil’s Activities – Stay in groups to reproduce each sentence.
  6. Listens to pupils while asking one another questions and responding.
  7. Pupil’s Activities – Practice asking one another similar questions and responding correctly with the appropriate intonation.
  8. Correct them where necessary.

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

LESSON EVALUATION 

Pupils to:

  1. Ask questions in the present tense using time adverbials.
  2. Answer questions correctly using appropriate intonation.
