CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES
Teacher’s Activities – Display chart showing different stages of water purification by boiling and use of alum for pupils in their respective groups to examine and discuss.
Pupil’s response – Active participation and discussion in the group’s work.
Teacher’s remark – There are many ways of purifying water. The chart shown water purification by boiling and use of alum. Discuss and demonstrate these methods.
MEANING OF WATER PURIFICATION
Water purification is the removal contaminants from water in order make water fit for drinking, cooking, bathing, etc.
TYPES OF WATER PURIFICATION
The remaining two (2) are –
1. Boiling
- Boiling water can kill germs and makes it safe for drinking, cooking, etc.
2. The use of alum
- Alum is a non toxic substance that is commonly used in treatment of contaminated water.
LESSON 2 – PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION OF WATER PURIFICATION BY BOILING AND USE OF ALUM
Teacher’s Activities – Guide the pupils to use boiling and alum to purify water.
Pupil’s response – Response to the teacher’s instructions.
Teacher’s remark – Celebrate their active participation.
LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEK LESSON ASSESSMENT
As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Discuss water purification by boiling and the use of alum.
