LESSON 4 – TELLING TIME IS O’CLOCK

A clock is a device used to display and indicate time.
ACTIVITY 3 – TELLING TIME IN O’CLOCK
We only use ‘o’clock’ for precise hours. You can say ‘eight o’clock’ at 08:00 but not at 08:01.
ACTIVITY 4 – HOW TO TELL TIME IN O’CLOCK
Guides the children on how to tell in O’clock using appropriate chart or sample clock by completing the hour hand.
We tell time in O’clock when there are NO minutes.
For example,
3:00 – It’s 10 o’clock
5:00 – It’s 5 o’clock
7:00 – It’s 1 o’clock
11:00 – It’s 12 o’clock
ACTIVITY 5 – FACTS ABOUT SCHOOL TIME
Teacher guides the children to understand the basic time in the school.
1. 6 o’clock, we get up from the bed to get ready for school and our parents are getting ready for work.
2. 8 o’clock, we are in school while our parents are at work.
3. 9 o’clock, short break.
4. 11 o’clock, long break.
5. 1 o’clock, closing time
6. 2 o’clock, we are home again.
Isn’t a great time to talk about.
LESSON 5 – MEASUREMENT OF TIME
ACTIVITY 1 – IDENTIFICATION AND USES OF RULER
Teacher displays a sample of ruler, asks the children, what is this?
Children’s responses – It is a ruler.
Teacher asks again, what is ruler used for?
Children’s responses – It is used for drawing lines, measurement/measuring, etc.
ACTIVITY 2 – HOW TO USE RULER FOR MEASUREMENT
Teacher guides the children how ruler is used for measurement.
For example, measuring the length of their pencils, books, etc.
ACTIVITY 3 – MEASUREMENT OF LENGTH USING HAND, ARMS AND LEGS, ETC.
Teacher guides the children to used other alternative means to measure length.
For example,

LESSON PRESENTATION
To deliver this lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. Teacher displays chart showing 1 – 50 for the children to identify and read correctly.
2. Teacher guides the children to skip counting in 2s.
Children’s Activities – The children identify and understand counting from 1 – 50 as well as skip count.
3. Teacher uses the chart showing 50 – 1 to guides the children to count backward.
Children’s Activities – The children count number backward. That’s, 50 – 1.
4. Teacher uses sample and chart of wall clock to introduce telling time in o’clock as well as guide the children to tell time.
Children’s Activities – The children understand how to tell time in o’clock.
5. Teacher uses ruler and your means of measuring length to guide the children to measure the length of their books, pencil, etc.
Children’s Activities – The children measure length using their rulers, arms, legs, etc.
6. Teacher summarizes the lesson, asks the children few questions and gives the children home work.
Children’s Activities – The children pay attention to the summary of the lesson, answer questions and do their homework at home.
