LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives –
1. explain the meaning of system application.
2. identify various types of system applications.
3. make uses of ms word, play music and watch short movie.
ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
The pupils can identify game applications on the system.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of Functional Computer System with the basic application.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
MEANING OF SYSTEM APPLICATIONS
System applications is the software used to perform a specific task.
It also known as application software.
USES OF SYSTEM APPLICATION
System application is used for,
1. creating documents, spreadsheets, databases and publications,
2. doing online research,
3. sending and receiving email,
4. designing graphics,
5. training and learning,
6. running businesses, and playing games.
TYPES OF SYSTEM APPLICATION
1. Microsoft Office
2. Encarta (not a available)
3. Mavis Beacon
4. Game applications
LESSON 2 – MICROSOFT OFFICE
MEANING OF MICROSOFT OFFICE
Microsoft Office is used to simplify basic office tasks and improve work productivity.
Microsoft Office is a set of programs that includes
1. Word
2. Excel
3. PowerPoint
4. Access
5. Publisher, and
6. OneNote.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps – he/she,
1. Revises the previous lesson based on the pupil’s related knowledge or experience.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in lesson review.
2. Gets some of the system applications, if available.
3. Allows the pupils to examine the system applications and describe. Note – some/most of the pupils might assume the system unit as disc.
4. Uses the pupil’s responses to differentiate between system applications and discs.
5. Introduces the lesson and explains the meaning of system applications.
6. Demonstrates the uses of available system applications on a functional system if available.
Pupil’s Activities –
7. Allows pupils to use the ms word, listen to music and watch a short movie.
Pupil’s Activities – Type their names, enjoy or watch the short movie.
8. Organizes an excursion to the nearest workstation or computer centre if functional computers are not available in school.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate in the excursion.
9. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in lesson summary and write as instructed.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
