PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

name some community leaders in the locality.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Pupils’ textbook.

2. Pictures of community leaders in their locality.

3. Monuments created in honour of some community leaders.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES

Teacher’s Activities – Leaders are members of the community. They take responsibilities to ensure peace and order in that community. Display chart showing a leader to identify and mention the name in their local language.

Pupil’s Activities – King – Oba – Eze, etc.

Teacher’s remark – The King – Oba – Eze, etc. are known as traditional leaders. Note the points on the board and discuss other leaders in the community.

 

OUR COMMUNITY LEADERS 

The idea of community leaders in Nigerian traditional settings e.g.

Oba – Yoruba

Eze – Igbo

 

 

Hausa – Emir/Sarki

Enoge – Benin

Etsu – Nupe

Ohinoyi – Ebira

Other titles holders in the Community.

 

LESSON 2 – OTHER LEADER IN THE COMMUNITY

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Creates discussion that lead the pupils to identification of community’s leaders.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate in the discussion to identify community leaders.

3. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

 

 

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

ASSIGNMENT

Find out from their parents the roles of the community leaders and report back to the class.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – roles of community leaders.
