ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
Pupils have previously learned about neighbourhood security, dangerous places and people, personal safety, and ways of preventing crime.
This lesson builds on that knowledge by introducing pupils to different security personnel and the proper ways of relating and cooperating with them to promote safety in the neighbourhood.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
Security personnel play an important role in keeping people and property safe. We see police officers, fire service officers, road safety officers, Civil Defence personnel, and security guards performing different duties in our communities.
People must cooperate with security personnel and treat them with respect so that they can perform their duties effectively.
In this lesson, pupils will learn about the types of security personnel, their duties, and proper ways of relating with them.
LESSON 1 – MEANING OF NEIGHBOURHOOD SECURITY
Neighbourhood security means keeping people, property, and the community safe from crime and danger.
Everyone has a role to play in keeping the neighbourhood safe and peaceful.
Security is a shared responsibility. Security personnel work with community members to maintain peace and safety.
TYPES OF SECURITY PERSONNEL
Security personnel are people whose duties include protecting lives and property and maintaining law and order.
Examples include:
1. Police officers – maintain law and order, prevent crime, and protect lives and property.
2. Civil Defence personnel (NSCDC) – help protect lives and property and support community safety.
3. Fire service officers – respond to fires and other emergencies and help prevent fire disasters.
4. Road safety officers (FRSC) – promote road safety and help manage road traffic.
5. Private security guards – protect homes, schools, offices, businesses, and other properties.
6. Community security personnel – help maintain safety and report security concerns within their communities.
LESSON 2 – WAYS OF RELATING WITH SECURITY PERSONNEL
Pupils should relate with security personnel in a respectful, honest, and cooperative manner.
They should:
1. Respect them while they work.
2. Obey lawful instructions they give.
3. Speak politely to them.
4. Give correct information when reporting an incident.
5. Report suspicious activities or danger.
