TOPIC – Use of ‘When’ in Long Sentences
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:
1. Explain the use of ‘when’ in long sentences.
2. Use ‘when’, in sentences illustrating the use of ‘we’.
3. Make many sentences illustrating the use of ‘when’.
4. Identify ‘when’ (casual) and ‘when’ (temporal).

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
USE OF ‘WHEN’
- The use of ‘when’ means ‘because’ it is frequently found in verbs like seeing, observing, noticing and realizing.
- Use of ‘when’ to express idea of time – when the girl finished cooking, she went into the bathroom.
Note – when ‘causal’ means when ‘reason’ . When ‘temporal’ means ‘expressing time’.
EXAMPLES
‘Casual‘ – when the teacher entered the class, the pupils became silent.
‘Temporal‘ – when the pupils finished their examination, they went home.
When the class saw the new books, they were happy – reasons.
When he finished his food, he went out to play – time.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Provides examples of the use of ‘when’ to pupils.
3. Uses substitution tables in explaining the use of ‘when’ temporal.
