By the end of the lesson, most of the students should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. state the values of sports in the society.
2. explain ways sports can be used to control youth restiveness.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
Participation in sporting activity is often associated with improvements in the health and fitness of the students.
Through sports, human beings improve not only their health conditions but also, their power of reasoning, control of emotions, personality development, and social relationship. In our culture, young students practice sports as a way to improve their quality of life.
VALUES/FUNCTION OF SPORTS IN THE SOCIETY
4. Crowd control
MANAGEMENT OF SPORTS IN THE SOCIETY
1. Controlling youth restiveness through sports.
2. Controlling youth crime through sports.
3. Controlling youth drug abuse through sports.
Teacher’s/Student’s Activities – Writes notes on the board for the students copy the board summary into their notebooks.
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the students some questions; then, the teacher –
2. Explains the values and functions of sports in the society.
Student’s Activities – Listen to teachers explanation and list the values and function of sports in the society.
3. Relates sports and societal values.
Student’s Activities – Discuss the relationship between sport and society.
4. Explains the use of sport as a means of harnessing the energy of youth.
Student’s Activities – Mention ways sport can be used to harness the energy of youths.
5. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
Student’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
Ask students to:
1. list the values and functions of sports in the society.
2. identify five ways sports can promote societal values.
3. explain ways sports can be used to control youth restiveness crime and drugs abuse.
