LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. Explain the meaning of a letter of appreciation.

2. State reasons for writing a letter of appreciation.

5. Use appropriate expressions of gratitude in a letter.

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils already know the format of informal letters. This lesson helps them express gratitude through letter writing.

INTRODUCTION

A letter of appreciation is a letter written to express gratitude or thanks to someone for kindness, help, support, or a gift received.

People write letters of appreciation to:

  • thank someone for a gift.
  • appreciate assistance received.
  • show gratitude for kindness.
  • acknowledge support or encouragement.

  • Salutation
  • Body of the letter
  • Complimentary close
  • Name of the writer
