1. explain why we must try to listen to other people’s views.

2. gives reasons why we must respect other people’s views, beliefs and traditions.

3. explain how to respect other people’s views, beliefs and traditions.

The pupils know how to ask, listen and respect.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of real cultural materials and objects.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Being kind to people of other faiths is a must in a diverse world.

Just having that skill can help you develop a lot of great friendships and learn a lot about other traditions and cultures.

Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. People’s views are the personal opinion, belief, attitudes about something or situation.

 

RESPECT FOR OTHER PEOPLE’S VIEWS

We must learn to listen to other people’s views, because:

 

1. there may be things to learn from them.

2. to show that we consider other people’s views important.

 

WHY WE MUST RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE’S VIEWS AND BELIEFS AND TRADITIONS

We must respect other people’s views so that –

1. there will be peace.

2. people will feel safe and happy.

3. you’ll learn new things and make better decisions.

4. you’ll make more interesting friends.

5. you’ll be a more progressive person.

6. you’ll make the world a better place.

 

LESSON 2 – HOW TO RESPECT FOR OTHER PEOPLE’S VIEWS, BELIEFS AND TRADITIONS

1. Look at people from other faiths as people, not as categories or religions.

2. Be informed about other faiths and customs.

 

3. Look for similarities.

4. Keep an open mind.

5. Remember that belief (including your own) is just that:belief.

6. Take care when talking about religion.

7. Avoid forcing your opinion or belief upon others.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

1. Recites some traditional rhymes and songs to the pupils;
Pupil’s Activities – Recite some traditional rhymes and songs.

2. Helps pupils to appreciate why we should listen to other people’s views.

 

Pupil’s Activities – Discuss items 1-2 in content.

3. Invites a resource person to give a talk on why we should respect other people’s views  beliefs and traditions.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the resource person and ask questions.

4. Guides pupils to show how to have respect for other people’s views, beliefs and traditions.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate in a demonstration on how to respect and tolerate other people’s views, beliefs and traditions.

5. Summary the key points on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
