By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. explain the meaning of population and house.

2. explain the relationship between population and available number of housing.

3. list five reasons why everybody does not own a house.

4. state the solutions to shortage of housing.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of: charts showing different housing.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION 

MEANING OF POPULATION 

Population is the total number of people living in a particular area.

 

MEANING OF HOUSE 

House is where people live.

 

 

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POPULATION AND AVAILABLE NUMBER OF HOUSES 

Increase in population means increase in request for houses and available number of houses become inadequate especially in urban areas.

 

REASONS WHY EVERYBODY DO NOT OWN HOUSES IN NIGERIA 

1. Many people are low income earner.

2. Building materials are costly including labours.

3. Cost of land is very high, especially in urban areas – Lagos.

4. Certificate of occupancy is very difficult.

5. People cannot easily obtain loan because of high interest rate.

6. Omo onile problems in urban areas, especially in Lagos.

 

LESSON TWO – SOLUTION TO SHORTAGE OF HOUSING 

1. Reduce cost of building materials.

2. Provision of loan facilities with low interest rates for all workers.

3. Building of affordable housing scheme for low income earners.

4. People should encourage to use of local materials.

5. Remove the problems of omo onile.

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Discusses the differences in the housing needs of urban and rural settlement;

Pupil’s Activities – State differences in the housing needs of urban and rural settlement.

3. Discusses the solutions to shortage of housing;

Pupil’s Activities – State the solutions to shortage of housing.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
  • Assignment – Find out the cost of buying a plot of land in your locality.
