THEME: LISTENING AND SPEAKING

PREVIOUS LESSON – SECOND TERM EXAMINATION ENGLISH STUDIES BASIC 4

TOPIC – STRESS PATTERN 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

utter each expression with the correct stress.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Course book – MacMillan Brilliant Primary English 4

Any practical book on phonetics.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

INTRODUCTION

The stress pattern of a word is the way all the syllables are stressed in it. There can be main and secondary stress, or unstressed sounds.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Expresses the stress pattern e.g “writing” has only one stress pattern “wri”.

3. Says the expression once and lets the pupils say after him/her three times.

Pupil’s Activities – Say each phrase expressing correct stress.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
