CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

ACTIVITY 1 

Teacher’s Activities – Display sample of common external storage devices (such as memory card and flash drive) for the pupils to identify and state their uses.

Pupil’s Activities – This a memory card and flash drive. They are used for storage music and films (movies).

Teacher’s remark – Smile and give the pupils a clap cheer. Storage device is one of the parts of system unit. Memory card and flash drive are storage device. There are two (2) types of storage devices (internal and external storage devices). This week, we are going to be learning about external storage devices.

Discuss and summary the meaning (types) of storage devices on the board.

 

MEANING OF STORAGE DEVICES 

 

Storage devices are devices where data or information are stored.

 

TYPES OF COMPUTER STORAGE DEVICES

There are two types of storage Devices –

1. Internet storage devices

2. External storage devices

 

ACTIVITY 2 

Teacher’s Activities – Display other sample of storage devices for the pupils to identify the ones they can. Say the name of the ones they are unable.

Pupil’s Activities – This is CD and DVD.

Teacher’s remark – The above are external storage devices. Write external storage devices on the board. Guide the pupils to identify each of them by name.

 

MEANING OF EXTERNAL STORAGES 

External storage is also known as external drives or secondary devices that are not part of the internal parts of a computer.

 

TYPES OF EXTERNAL STORAGE

There are seven (7) external storage devices,

 

1. Diskettes

2. Compact disk (CD – ROM)

3. Memory card

4. DVD – ROM

5. Flash Drive

6. Online/Cloud storage

7. PC external memory

They are secondary devices that are not part of the internal parts of a computer.

 

ASSIGNMENT

Find out the uses of external storage devices.

 

LESSON 2 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES/QUESTIONS 

ACTIVITY 1

Teacher’s Activities – Guide pupils to locate appropriate port for each of the external storage devices.

Pupil’s Activities – Insert each external device in there appropriate port or location.

Teacher’s remark – Good job you for active participation. Guide the pupils locate each of these devices on the computer monitor.

 

ACTIVITY 2 

Teacher’s Activities – Review the previous lesson by asking the following questions –

3. _________ and _________ types of storage device.

4. _________ is a secondary storage device.

5. State 5 examples of external storage device.

Pupil’s Activities – Storage devices, two, internal and external storage devices, eternal storage. Memory card, flash drive etc.

Teacher’s remark – Correct. Discuss the uses of external storage device. Summary the discussion on the board.

 

USES OF EXTERNAL STORAGE DEVICES

1. They used for storage data such as files, media and software applications.

2. They served as backup for important data.

3. They are used for data transfer from one computer to another.

4. They are used for installation software applications.

5. They are used for producing multiple data.

6. They are for gaming.

7. They are used for digital editing.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

 

2. Provides the pupils with diskette, compact disc, memory card and flash drive.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify diskette, compact disc, memory card and flash drive.

3.Guides pupils to locate appropriate port for each of the external storage devices.

Pupil’s Activities – Locate appropriate port for each of the external storage devices.

4. Puts on the computer system and guides the pupils locate each of these devices on the computer monitor.

5. Summary of the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher write.

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
