PREVIOUS LESSON – MODELING I

TOPIC – MODELLING 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

  1. state the meaning of paper Mache (mashed paper).
  2. identify the materials used for paper Mache.
  3. name some objects that could be produced using papier Mache.
  4. produce objects using papier Mache.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

  1. Old newspapers
  2. Starch
  3. Mortar
  4.  Pestle
  5. Photographs
  6. Books
  7. Slides
  8. Mould

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTION

Paper Mache is the method of creating objects using mashed or pounded paper mixed with starch.

 

MATERIALS FOR MAKING PAPER MACHE 

  1. paper (mashed)
  2. Pestle and mortar
  3. Starch
  4. Mould

 

OBJECTS PRODUCED FROM PAPER MACHE 

  1. Lizard
  2. Cups
  3. Plates
  4. Masks, etc.

 

PREPARING PAPER MACHE

  1. Torn papers into pieces and soaked in water for at least 3 days.
  2. Sieve the paper from the water.
  3. Mashed or pound the paper together to give the desired result.
  4. Add appropriate quantity of starch.
  5. Paper Mache is ready for use.

 

PRODUCING OBJECTS FROM PAPER MACHE 

Pupil’s/Teacher’s Activities

 

 

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Explains meaning of paper mache.
  3. Pupil’s Activities – Discuss the meaning of paper mache.
  4. Names some materials used for paper mache.
  5. Pupil’s Activities – Name some materials used for paper mache.
  6. Lists some objects that can be produced with paper mache.
  7. Pupil’s Activities – List objects that can modeled with paper mache.
  8. Pupil’s Activities – Asks pupils to produce objects using paper mache.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
  • Next Lesson – Introduction to Music

 

LESSON EVALUATION 

Pupils to:

  1. State the meaning of paper mache.
  2. Name two materials used for making paper mache.
  3. Produce an art work using paper mache.
  4. Display finished work.

Home work

Prepare paper mâché and mould a lizard or a cup.
