PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

  1. Recognize what a simple sentences is,
  2. Link the main dependent clause. For example, this is  the money, it dropped from your pocket – This is the money (main clause) which dropped from your pocket (its refers to and describe the money).

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

 

LINKING OF SHORT SENTENCES TO MAKE LONG ONE 

 

Sentences can be joined with relative pronouns – who, which and that. A clause in, which any of these is found, it is called relative clause.

 

WHO – Subject or object. It is used for persons.

For example,

The man who stole the iPhone has been arrested.

 

WHICH – Subject or object. It is used for non – persons (animals or things).

For example,

Kola collected the novel which he gave the teacher.

This is the money which dropped from your pocket

 

THAT – Subject or object. It is used for persons, animals or things.

For example,

The man that stole the iPhone has been arrested.

Kola collected the novel that he gave the teacher.

This is the money that dropped from your pocket

 

Exercise –

  1. This is the boy. He broke my glasses.
  2. I have a cap. It is black. Bola has a black cat. It is called Nice.
  3. This is the man. He asked of you yesterday.
  4. This is the teacher. He taught me in primary 4.

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Use substitution table, written work follows, after pupils have gained mastery in oral composition.
  3. Makes two short sentences and links them into one long sentences.
  4. Pupil’s Activities – Make pairs or short sentences and then after the teacher must have given two or three examples.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
