TOPIC – EFFECTS OF PESTS IN THE HOME 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to effects of pests in home.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

  1. Chart showing different types of household pests.
  2. Cleaning materials.
  3. insecticides and pesticides.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTION 

They are harmful insects and animals. They are dangerous to health. They often carry diseases. They are commonly found in dirty houses and surroundings e.g. rats, cockroaches etc. For example, mice, mosquitoes, rats, housefly, bedbugs, weevils, etc.

 

EFFECTS OF PEST IN THE HOME 

  1. They are harmful to man and his environment.
  2. They carry disease that cause infections.
  3. They eat and damage food and article in the home.
  4. Rats and rodents can cause Lassa fever

Proper ways of cleaning the house.

  1. Open windows to allow ventilation.
  2. Remove cobwebs.
  3. Sweep the cupboard, shelves, wardrobe etc.
  4. Sweep the floor regularly. Dusting the house and house hold furniture.
  5. Cut bushes around you.

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Explains the meaning of household pests with examples.
  3. Pupil’s Activities – Explain the meaning of household pests with some examples.
  4. Guides the pupils to discuss how household pests can be controlled.
  5. Pupil’s Activities – Fully participate in how household pests can be controlled.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

 

LESSON EVALUATION 

Pupils to state the effects of pests and preventive measures for controlling pests in the home.
