By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. Explain the term – salt of the earth.

2. Point out the various uses of salt.

3. Explain how Christians are the salt of the earth.

4. List qualities that make Christians the salt of the earth.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTION 

Matthew 5 : 13

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

 

MEANING OF SALT OF THE EARTH 

Salt of the earth are people considered a very good and honest people.

 

 

USES OF SALT 

1. It is used for cooking.

2. It is used for preserving foods.

3. It is used washing raw food.

4. It is used for regulating the water in your body.

5. It is used disinfecting or killing germs.

 

CHRISTIAN AS THE SALT OF THE EARTH 

QUALITIES EXPECTED FROM CHRISTIAN AS THE SALT OF THE EARTH – MATHEW 5 : 11 – 16

11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

 

These are the qualities of  expected from Christians as the salt of the earth –

1.  Patients

2. Respect

3. Honest

4. Truthful

5. Kind

6. Quick to listen and slow to talk

7. Not walking in the past of a sinners

8. Not keeping evil records, etc.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Explains the importance of salt in preparation of food.

Pupil’s Activities – Explain the term – salt of the earth. Discuss and state the importance of salt in the food they eat.

3. States various uses of salt for preservation of food items.

Pupil’s Activities – Discuss and state the various uses of salt for preservation of food items.

4. Explains how Christians can be salt of the earth – influencing the society positively.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen and contribute to the teacher’s explanation.

5. Leads pupils to enumerate the qualities of Christians who are to be salt of the earth.

Pupil’s Activities – Discuss and state the qualities required of a Christian.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
