PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

state ways of controlling harmful insects.

The pupils can state some of the ways of controlling harmful farm insects.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of insect – killing chemicals with warnings of poison clearly written.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – Based on the previous assignment, ask the pupils to state and discuss how harmful farm insects can be controlled.

Pupil’s Activities – Response to teacher’s question.

Teacher’s remark – Participate in the class discussion and give a great cheer for active participation. Note the points of discussion on the board.

 

WAYS OF CONTROLLING HARMFUL FARM INSECTS 

1. Biological Control 

This process involves using animals to feed on the pests on the farm.

 

2. Cultural Control 

 

 

Cultural control is the removal of Insects by hands, cutlass or trap.

This is also called manual control.

 

3. Chemical Control 

A chemical is a man – made liquid or powder used for controlling or killing Insects.

 

4. Quarantine

Quarantine is the separation of good crops and animals from the infected ones.

 

LESSON 2 – REVISION AND WEEKLY  ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

1. Discuss local methods of controlling insects in the environment or on the farms.

 

 

Pupil’s Activities – Identify and state local methods of controlling insects in the environment or on the farms..

2. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
