PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain vegetables.

2. identify and names some local vegetable crops.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Ewedu, ugu, etc.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Samples of local vegetables.

2. Chart of local vegetables.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Displays sample or chart showing different kinds of local vegetable crops for pupils to identify.

Note – Local names are allowed.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify and names common vegetables in their locality.

 

 

NAMES OF SOME LOCAL VEGETABLES

1. Tomato

2. Okra

3. Pepper

4. Lettuce

5. Cabbage

6. Bitter leaf

7. Water leaf

8. Pumpkin leaf (Ugwu)

9. Cochorous (Ewedu)

10. Amaranthus (Tete)

11. Spinach (Shoko), etc.

 

MEANING OF VEGETABLE CROPS 

Vegetables are part of crops that can be leaves, stems and roots.

Vegetables are good source of vitamins, minerals and used for medical herbs.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Displays and identify samples of leafy vegetables such as bitter leaf, water leaf, lettuce, tomato, okra, pepper, garden egg, plant.

Pupil’s Activities –

  • Observe samples of leafy vegetables.
  • List some vegetables they eat at home.

3. Explain the meaning of vegetable crops.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the teacher’s explain and define vegetable crops.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
